Matthew Wells is assistant coach of boys and girls cross country.

Coach Wells  was raised in Newark, Delaware. He graduated from Newark High School in 2002 and the University of Delaware in 2006.  He holds a Masters of Mathematics from Villanova, a Masters in Mathematics Education from West Chester University, and his Principal Teaching Certificate from Temple University. He is currently working on his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at the University of Delaware.

Coach Wells has been teaching mathematics at HHS for eleven years and has coached wrestling for ten. Years ago, when he and his friend Chris Walter decided to train for the Broad Street Run, a new passion was born.  He has been a dedicated runner ever since and has subsequently qualified for the Boston Marathon.  Coach Wells brings a unique set of skills and knowledge as well as enthusiasm and energy to the HXC program.

He and his wife Mia are the proud parents of George (4 years old) and James (2 years old). He has grown to love cross country running and looks forward coaching one of the most successful and energetic teams at Haverford.
